About

Poured slow. Burned clean.

Aurora Candle Works hand-pours soy and coconut wax candles and keeps a short list of the things that go with them: beeswax tapers and pillars, a reed diffuser, a room mist, and brass tools for looking after a candle. There are 18 products. Each one publishes everything we know about it before you are asked for a card.

Cotton wicks held upright and centred in empty frosted glass tumblers on the workbench, ready for pouring.

Why the record

Hand-poured soy candles have a problem that factory paraffin candles do not. Soy wax frosts — it blooms white on the surface and against the glass — and it can pull away from the glass in patches as it cools. That is the wax, not a fault. But unannounced, it looks exactly like one.

So we say it in advance, on every page, in a field called finish & variation: here is where your candle will differ from the photograph, and here is why.

The rest of the record follows from the same instinct. A burn time with the conditions we measured it under, because “up to 60 hours” means nothing without them. Scent notes from top to base, because a name like “Fireside” could mean anything. And a safety list on every page, because a candle is an open flame, and the rules for burning one well are the same rules for burning one safely.

How the candles are made

The candles are poured by hand in small batches in Port Charlotte, Florida. The wax is a blend of soy and coconut, which burns cooler and slower than paraffin. The fragrance oils are phthalate-free, and the wicks are braided cotton with no lead or metal core, each one sized to the width of its vessel.

After pouring, the candles cure for about two weeks before they ship, so the fragrance has time to bind to the wax. The beeswax tapers and pillars are left their natural colour and are not scented. The diffuser and room mist are blended and bottled in the same small batches. The brass tools and the match cloche are made for us, then checked and packed alongside the candles.

None of this is faster or cheaper than the alternative. A machine-filled paraffin candle costs a fraction of a hand-poured one and looks identical every time. We would rather tell you about the frosting.

What we will not put on this site

There are no star ratings, no review counts and no testimonials anywhere here. Not because we do not want them — because this shop is new, and a new shop displaying four thousand reviews is telling you something about itself that has nothing to do with candles.

There is no founding date and no story about generations of anything. There are no claims that a scent will help you sleep, focus or feel better — these are candles, and we describe what they smell of. There is no urgency banner, no countdown, and no invented original price with a line through it. There is no subscription, no membership and no auto-renewal — every order is a single purchase, charged once.

When there are real reviews from real customers, they will appear, attributed. Until then the product pages will have to do the work, which is what they were written for.

If something goes wrong

Glass sometimes does not survive a courier. When that happens, send a photograph within fourteen days and we replace or refund the item in full, including the shipping you paid. You keep the broken one; there is nothing to post back.

Anything unburned and unopened can go back within 30 days on a prepaid label we send you, with no restocking fee and no explanation required.

Your card statement will show AURORA. If you do not recognise a charge, email us before disputing it — we can identify an order in minutes, and it is far faster than going through your bank.
