The warm one. Resinous amber and a little clove, settling into a smoked vanilla that is dry rather than sweet — closer to the inside of a cabinet of spices than to a bakery.
The amber-tinted frosted glass throws a warm light even before the wax is fully melted. It is the strongest of the six scents, so a single candle is plenty for a medium room.
8 oz of soy and coconut wax on a single cotton wick, for about 50 hours of burning.
The product record
Everything we know about this product, stated plainly. The same record is printed on the card in the box.
- Made of
- Soy and coconut wax blend with phthalate-free fragrance oil. One lead-free braided cotton wick. Straight-sided amber frosted glass tumbler with a brushed-brass lid and a cream paper label.
- Dimensions
- 3.1 in Ø × 3.7 in high with lid
- Weight
- 8 oz net wax · about 1 lb 3 oz with glass and lid
- Burn time
- Approximately 50 hours, measured in 4-hour burns with the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch each time.
- Scent notes
- Top: clove, orange peel · Heart: amber resin, labdanum · Base: smoked vanilla, tonka
- Finish & variation
- Creamy off-white wax. Soy wax frosts — a white, crystalline bloom on the top and against the glass — and may show wet spots where the wax has pulled slightly away from the glass as it cooled. The top can set a little uneven. All three are natural to a hand-poured soy blend, vary jar to jar, and do not change how the candle burns. The tint and frosting of the glass also vary slightly between batches.
- Made
- Hand-poured in small batches in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Care & burning
- First burn: let the wax melt all the way to the edge before you put it out — usually 2 to 3 hours for this size. A short first burn leaves a tunnel down the middle that the candle never recovers from.
- Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before every burn. A long wick smokes, flickers and blackens the vessel.
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time, then let the candle cool completely before relighting.
- Put the flame out with a snuffer, or dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it — less smoke than blowing, and the wick stays centred.
- Keep the wax pool clear of match ends and wick trimmings; debris in the pool can flare.
Safety & cautions
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, and never burn one while you sleep.
- Keep away from drafts, curtains, shelves overhead and anything that can catch. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. The vessel gets hot — do not move it while it is lit or while the wax is liquid.
- Stop burning when 1/2 inch of wax remains. Below that the base of the vessel can overheat and crack, or scorch what it is standing on.
- Never use water to put out a candle. Do not put the lid on while it is still burning.
- If the flame flickers, smokes or stands taller than about 1 inch, put it out, let it cool, trim the wick and relight.
