Borealis in a wide, matte ink-navy ceramic bowl with three cotton wicks — for a larger room, an open-plan space, or a table where one small flame is not enough.
Three wicks melt a wide pool quickly, so the scent carries further and sooner than the 8 oz candle. Plan on a first burn of about three hours so the whole surface melts to the edge.
22 oz of soy and coconut wax, for about 80 hours of burning. The bowl has a gloss-finished interior and is reusable once the last wax is cleaned out.
The product record
Everything we know about this product, stated plainly. The same record is printed on the card in the box.
- Made of
- Soy and coconut wax blend with phthalate-free fragrance oil. Three lead-free braided cotton wicks. Wide ceramic bowl with a gloss-finished interior and a matte ink-navy exterior.
- Dimensions
- 6.3 in Ø × 3.5 in high
- Weight
- 22 oz net wax · about 3 lb 4 oz with bowl
- Burn time
- Approximately 80 hours, measured in 4-hour burns with all three wicks lit and trimmed to 1/4 inch each time.
- Scent notes
- Top: cold air, bergamot · Heart: black spruce, fir needle · Base: vetiver, oakmoss
- Finish & variation
- Creamy off-white wax that will frost and may set with a slightly uneven top. The matte outer finish varies a little in depth of colour bowl to bowl, and the bare foot ring is slightly rough by design — lift rather than drag it across a polished surface.
- Made
- Hand-poured in small batches in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Care & burning
- Always light all three wicks together, and keep them burning together, so the pool melts evenly.
- First burn: let the wax melt all the way to the edge before you put it out — about 3 hours for this size. A short first burn leaves a tunnel down the middle that the candle never recovers from.
- Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before every burn. A long wick smokes, flickers and blackens the vessel.
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time, then let the candle cool completely before relighting.
- Put the flame out with a snuffer, or dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it — less smoke than blowing, and the wick stays centred.
- Keep the wax pool clear of match ends and wick trimmings; debris in the pool can flare.
Safety & cautions
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, and never burn one while you sleep.
- Keep away from drafts, curtains, shelves overhead and anything that can catch. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. The vessel gets hot — do not move it while it is lit or while the wax is liquid.
- Stop burning when 1/2 inch of wax remains. Below that the base of the vessel can overheat and crack, or scorch what it is standing on.
- Never use water to put out a candle. Do not put the lid on while it is still burning.
- If the flame flickers, smokes or stands taller than about 1 inch, put it out, let it cool, trim the wick and relight.
- Three wicks put out more heat than one. Give the bowl at least 12 inches of clear space on every side and above, and never burn it on a shelf.
- Do not burn it for more than 3 hours at a time if the room is warm or the bowl is in direct sun.
